Below is a game-by-game preview of every Philadelphia 76ers home game this month at the Xfinity Mobile Arena:
The preseason opener at Xfinity Mobile Arena carries an unusual charge as Jaylen Brown squares off with the Celtics team he spent his entire career with before this summer's blockbuster move to Philadelphia. Boston counters with Jayson Tatum, Paul George and Derrick White, giving both sides a chance to trial rotations before the games count. Expect Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey on a minutes limit while the new-look 76ers work out their pecking order. It is an exhibition, but the storyline of Brown facing Tatum will draw eyes early.
Philadelphia's regular-season home slate opens against a Cavaliers group led by Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, with James Harden's return to the city he once starred in adding subplot. The Sixers lean on their new core of Embiid, Maxey, Brown and LeBron James to set an early tone. Cleveland's length up front will test Embiid inside, while the backcourt duel between Maxey and Mitchell should crackle. A statement night for a team with title expectations.
The Bucks visit with a reshaped roster fronted by Tyler Herro, Myles Turner and Kyle Kuzma, a very different Milwaukee look than in years past. Philadelphia should have a size edge with Embiid anchoring the paint against Turner and Kel'el Ware. Maxey and Anfernee Simons can turn this into a track meet if the Sixers push tempo. Depth and star power favor the home side early in the season.
On the second night of a back-to-back, Philadelphia hosts a rising Detroit team built around Cade Cunningham and the athletic frontcourt of Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and John Collins. Cunningham's playmaking will challenge whoever the Sixers assign defensively, likely a mix of Edgecombe and Caldwell-Pope. LeBron James and Brown give Philadelphia the two-way wing depth to contain Detroit's drives. Managing energy after Milwaukee will be the subplot for Nick Nurse's rotation.
The reigning champion Knicks bring their title banner to Philadelphia for an NBA Cup group-stage clash loaded with Atlantic Division bad blood. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby headline a New York side that will not lack for confidence. For the Sixers, it is an early measuring stick against the standard-bearer, with Embiid and Towns renewing a physical center matchup. Two contenders, an in-season trophy on the line, and a raucous Wells Fargo crowd make this the marquee night of the month.
